To close out Black History Month, Calvary members hosted a special Soul Food Luncheon. Each dish reflected the rich history, resilience, and cultural heritage of Black Americans, creating a meaningful time of fellowship and celebration. Food Included:  Barbecue Chicken Jerk Chicken Curry Chicken Barbecue Ribs Cabbage Rice and Beans Mac and Cheese Fufu Greens Banana Puddings Sweet Potato Pie  Pound Cake and much more!  

Calvary’s Youth Group had an amazing time at the annual Winter Blast Retreat this past weekend! Even with colder-than-normal temperatures, our students had an absolute BLAST playing games, worshiping, and discovering that they BELONG and have a meaningful part to play in God’s kingdom. Ten students and three adult leaders joined nearly 60 participants from six ABCOPAD churches at Camp Ichthus in Palmerton, PA. Along with all the fun at camp, the group also enjoyed a trip to Blue Mountain Ski Resort for snow tubing! This retreat is made possible each year in part through contributions to the Partners in Ministry offering, which we are currently collecting for. Welcome Revered John Lowery! We’re excited to welcome Rev. Lowery to the Calvary Baptist family! He brings over 20 years of ministry experience from Pilgrim Baptist Church right here in Newark, beginning as a teacher and eventually serving as a bivocational minister while building a successful career in finance. This past Sunday, Rev. Lowery shared a beautiful Advent message titled “Renewed Hope.” Though it’s not his first time preaching at Calvary, we couldn’t be happier to have him with us again.

As a church that is “Diverse in Culture,” and one including many Black individuals and families, we recognize the tremendous importance of amplifying their historically oppressed voices and contributions.
